Apple is set to launch the next generation of the iPhone lineup -- the iPhone 14 series -- at an upcoming event called ?Far Out" which is scheduled for September 7. At this event, the Cupertino-based tech giant is also expected to launch the new Apple Watch series and other products.

An earlier report speculated that the Pro variant of the upcoming iPhone 14 series is likely to feature a new display and improved cameras. According to a new report by 9to5Mac, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed that the iPhone 14 Pro models might sport a new ultra-wide angle lens which will pack larger pixels.

Kuo has also tweeted his claims via his official Twitter account and has mentioned that several other companies will be responsible for providing the components for the new iPhone 14 Pro's ultra-wide camera, which includes -- Sony, Minebea, VCM, Largan and LG Innotek.

How will this change improve iPhone photography

As per the report, a sensor with larger pixels allows more light and less noise to capture the images without any post-processing tricks. This new upgrade is expected to improve the iPhone's photographic prowess in low-light situations.

For reference, the current iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max smartphones feature a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens with 1.0 m (micrometre) pixels. Kuo claims that this year's iPhone 14 Pro models are rumoured to have 1.4 m pixels. However, the new components are up to 70% more expensive than the current ones, the report notes.

Other camera improvements coming to iPhone 14 Pro

Earlier reports have revealed that the ultra-wide angle lens is not the only camera change that will be included with the iPhone 14 Pro. The upcoming models are likely to sport e a new 48-megapixel wide lens capable of shooting video in 8K resolution. Meanwhile, the front shooter is rumoured to have a larger f/1.9 aperture sensor with autofocus, which is also expected to capture better images in low-light scenarios.

Key changes coming to entry-level iPhone 14 models

However, these changes mentioned above will be limited only to the Pro models, The base models in the iPhone 14 series will not only keep the same design as iPhone 13 but will also feature similar cameras to its predecessor.

The entry-level iPhone 14 models are also likely to have a slightly improved A15 Bionic chip with more RAM and better GPU. The report mentions that the biggest upgrade to the base models of iPhones this year will be the inclusion of a new 6.7-inch device that will replace the iPhone mini.

Key changes coming to iPhone 14 Pro models

In the case of the Pro models, both devices will arrive with notable upgrades including -- a larger battery, a new display that supports the always-on feature and a pill-shaped front-facing camera instead of the traditional notch. The report also speculates that the iPhone 14 Pro lineup will be even more expensive than the current models.
