LG V50 ThinQ 5G is now receiving its Android 12 update
LG's mobile division might be dead, but it's still got some zombie thing going - it promised to update some of its last devices to Android 12 this year, and it's very slowly delivering on that promise. Following the Velvet and the V60 ThinQ, today the LG V50 ThinQ 5G has started receiving the update to Android 12. This update was supposed to happen by the end of June, but it apparently got slightly delayed.
Sure, Android 13 might be just around the corner at this point, but it's still commendable to see a company that quit the mobile game not forget its customers from days past. The V50 ThinQ 5G was released in April 2019, and the update to Android 12 is currently rolling out to Verizon models in the US. Presumably the other US variations of the phone are next in line to receive the goodies.
The changelog is very sparse, but you should expect to receive all of the nice new features Google packed into Android 12 last year, including the privacy indicators for microphone and camera, controls for location sharing, and more. However, don't expect any UI changes - integrating those would have been too much work apparently, so the software will look like it used to before the update.
Also, don't expect any additional Android updates for the V50 ThinQ, this is the end of the line. And with the phone now being more than three years old, maybe the time has come to trade it in for something newer?
