VIVO is getting ready to announce its first ever foldable smartphone, aptly named vivo X Fold.

vivo X Fold marketing materials leak revealing more specs

The vivo X Fold will have an 8-inch "2K" internal folding screen with 120 Hz refresh rate and LTPO 3.0 technology for varying said refresh rate, a 6.53" FHD+ 120 Hz outer display, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, LPDDR5 memory, UFS 3.1 storage, Android 12 installed, and a 4,600 mAh battery with 66W wired and 50W wireless charging support.

The phone has a quad-camera array with Zeiss branding and T* coating on the back, as well as a 50 MP Samsung GN5 primary camera with OIS. The remaining cameras include a 48 MP ultrawide lens with a 114-degree field-of-view, a 12 MP portrait lens (which we assume means 2x zoom), and a 5 MP 60x OIS periscope camera. The vivo X Fold is also confirmed to have Wi-Fi 6 and NFC.

According to the materials, the X Fold's screen has equaled or beaten 19 DisplayMate A+ records, and the hinge has been certified by TUV Rheinland to work for 300,000 folds/unfolds. The vivo X Fold will be released first in China, as you can obviously guess from the fact that this is entirely in Chinese. Unlike the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold and the Oppo Find N, we hope it makes it to global markets at some point, but don't hold your breath.

For reasons we don't understand, Chinese corporations appear to be spending big on foldables, but just for their local market. That's a shame since it means there's far less competition in this market globally than there could be.
