teams: How to chat with users outside your organisation on Microsoft Teams
Microsoft has added a new feature to its chat and video conferencing platform, Teams. The feature allows users to chat with anyone even if they are not in the same organisation or using a personal Teams account. With this addition, Teams users can now invite any user for a one-on-one chat or in a group chat by simply entering his/her complete email address or phone number with a Microsoft personal account.
According to Microsoft, the new Teams feature provides IT admins and Microsoft personal account users a range of controls and tools to ensure security.
To begin with, Teams only allows users to send text messages, emojis and media via this feature. Calling facility is not available.
Wondering how to use this feature, here's how
Download and install the latest version of Microsoft Teams on your device
Login using your personal or official email address
On the left side of Teams, select Chat and then New chat to start a new chat.
Enter email address or phone number of the person you want to chat with
Click on the name from the search result to start a new chat
Do note that if the user is already on Teams, you will be able to start a chat instantly. However, if a user does not have a Microsoft account, then he/she will receive an invitation to join Teams. Once they are signed up, you’ll be able to start the conversation.
