Instagram is undergoing some changes. It's all prepared to begin testing a new feature that will bring things into your primary feed that you may not have requested or even wanted. Instagram, on the other hand, wants to give you some influence over the process while still dictating what you see.
Instagram claims that its initial experiment with the suggested posts feature was so successful that it has inspired the company to continue down that path. They were restricted - right at the end of the suggested posts test. It is now considering shifting them up.
In these suggested posts, Instagram will give you the opportunity to choose your own areas of interest. You can also snooze suggested posts for 30 days if you don't like what's going on. However, the Instagram suggested posts test will not be available to everyone at first. It could have a very limited initial release.
One of the proposed motivations for this Instagram function is to keep users on the platform for extended periods of time, hence benefiting the app. The Verge, on the other hand, suggests that these capabilities could be part of a bigger trend aimed at giving users more control over their accounts. Allowing a user to pick and choose from available options offers them a sense of control. If you look at it that way, it's a process democratisation.
